Sales Associate – Summer Student, through Canada Summer Jobs Program

Position Summary

Reporting to the Store Manager, the Store Associate will be a hands-on position that will work along side volunteers and staff in both the back and front of the store receiving, sorting, stocking and merchandising donated goods for sale.   As a Store Associate you are to provide excellent service to customers and donors and assist the Store and Shift Supervisors in the maintenance of all store operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, move, stock and merchandise donated goods (up to 30 lbs)
  • Evaluate donated goods for quality and condition; price and value items according to established guidelines and/or research and develop new pricing guidelines
  • With the support of the Store Manager, oversee the day to day flow of donated goods and modify operations and resolve issues that arise among the store volunteers to support same
  • Proactively provide excellent customer/donor service including assisting with his/her store experience, answering inquiries and resolving issues
  • Maintain neat and orderly sales floor, dressing rooms and check out areas
  • Perform daily cash procedures and reconciliations in accordance with Store policy
  • Support the Store in achieving daily sales goals and sorting targets
  • Ensure that the stores safety and security policies and procedures are followed by and promoted to volunteers and staff
  • Help the Store manager with volunteer training and coach volunteers on operational procedures and standards of practice
  • Promote upcoming sales or special fundraising events for Kamloops Hospice Association
  • Continuously promote the Thrift Store’s need for donated goods to fulfill its mission
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 Skills, Abilities and Attributes:

  •  Organization skills – Ability to multitask and reassign constantly changing priorities; diligent implementation of operational procedures
  • Interpersonal skills – able to relate well with people, build new relationships and communicate effectively
  • Teamwork – able to work with a variety of staff and volunteers with varied skills and abilities and understands how to motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Self-motivation – able to self-manage and take a comprehensive approach to task management with attentiveness and follow-through
  • Leadership – the ability to advise, coach, delegate and support staff and volunteers to work confidently and effectively, and model Hospice core values
  • Office Administration – Proficiency with standard business and retail software applications such as Microsoft Office and POS systems
  • Ability to be resourceful and problem solve
  • Flexible and adaptable; Reliable


  •  High school diploma
  • 1+ years of retail and/or customer service experience;
  • 1+ years of cash management experience;
  • And/or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience may be considered
  • Applicants must be 15-30 years old and returning to school in September of 2021.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds;
  • Requirement to physically and vigorously move/stand throughout your shift
  • Scheduled work on days, evenings and weekends as required

Kamloops Hospice Association receives donation from BC Interior Community Foundation

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Hospice Association has received a boost in funding through the BC Interior Community Foundation.  A cheque was presented outside the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home Thursday morning (July 23) in the amount of $8,500.

Stop, Drop and Donate event stocks shelves, raises over $28,000 for Kamloops Hospice Association

KAMLOOPS — A weekend fundraiser for the Kamloops Hospice Association turned out to be a huge success, raising more than $28,000.  The Stop, Drop and Donate event saw many Kamloops residents come through the parking lot at IG Wealth Management on Sahali Terrace Saturday (July 11), bringing money, food, and household items for the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden home.
