Hospice care is aimed at comfort care and relieving suffering while improving the quality of life for persons who are dying from advanced illness or are bereaved.
Referral Process
Admission to Kamloops Hospice Association requires a referral from a physician and the consent from the patient or family, if the patient is unable to give consent. The physician and health care team will complete the necessary paperwork.
Central Intake, through Interior Health determines who will be admitted into a Hospice bed. The FAC can be accessed through the Interior Health Community Nursing office.
Kamloops Hospice Association admits people for:
Most often the patient’s family physician will continue care while in Hospice; however, if necessary there is always a Palliative Care Physician on call.
Families and patients have the option to choose their preferred location for Hospice care in Kamloops; however, an alternative Hospice bed may be selected base on care needs and bed availability.
On Admission
We recognize that this is a very difficult and stressful time. The staff of the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home will do everything possible to comfort and support you as you take this journey with your loved ones.
When you arrive you will be settled into your room and then oriented to the House. One of our nurses will complete an assessment and answer any questions you may have. An Information Binder with more details about our Home is available in each patient room.
