Our organization could not operate without the dedicated people that volunteer their time, talent and heart. Volunteers provide support in many ways either directly with patients, working at our thrift store or in the everyday operations of the Hospice House.

Hospice volunteers are people from the community who are involved because they care. They are carefully selected and trained, and receive ongoing support, supervision and education. In everything they do, volunteers respect the privacy and need for confidentiality of the patient and his/her family.

Client Volunteers

An important part of Hospice Care is the Hospice Visiting Program. The program provides professional staff and trained volunteers who provide support in the home, hospital and other care facilities as well as in our Hospice Home. These volunteers provide the following services:

  • Companionship
  • Relief for caregivers for short periods of time
  • Information regarding resources in the community
  • Support to people and their families, who are living with life threatening illness
  • Support to the bereaved

Training for client volunteers is held in the spring and fall. If you are interested in becoming a client volunteer, please contact Pamela Young, Community Programs Coordinator at (250) 372-1336 or pamela@kamloopshospice.com.

  • Cooking/Baking
  • Gardening
  • Pet Therapy
  • Maintenance
  • Housekeeping
  • Reception
  • Administration
  • Library

Thrifts Store Volunteers

The thrift store is an important part of the Kamloops Hospice Association. The store not only provides a great service to the community, it also provides financial support to the operation of the Hospice House.

The volunteers sort and price the items, display the product and assist customers with their purchases.

For more information regarding volunteering for the thrift store please contact Mary Rea, Manager-Flutterbuys, at (250) 376-1335 or mary@kamloopshospice.com

Becoming a member of the Kamloops Hospice Society is a great way to be kept informed about Hospice in your community. Please contact us at 250 372-1336 or email if you are interested in learning more about membership.

Someone touched a bell, causing it to ring
A volunteer touched a life, causing it to sing
Someone touched our Home, our thanks go out to you
The Volunteers who are so faithful, and whose love rings out so true.
