Team Lead, Financial Services  – Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the overall effectiveness of the financial and administrative systems in accordance with the Kamloops Hospice Association’s vision, mission, and values to enhance the quality of life of person and their families facing death through skills and compassionate care.  The position is a hands-on role that oversees the day-to-day operation of the financial services function.  This role will work cross-departmentally and will be provided with very broad financial and organizational exposure with the opportunity to mold the position to a candidate’s strengths.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will:

Prepare and develop monthly financial and management reports for a variety of stakeholder needs including variance analysis of budget vs. actuals

Lead and/or prepare the year-end financial statement process and documentation required for auditors

Assist with the annual operating and capital budget process

Prepare and/or oversee full-cycle accounting including complex payroll and benefits administration for 45+ employees, A/P and A/R

Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts including the maintenance of the capital asset ledger

Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory filing requirements and make recommendations to enhance policies to support same

Interpret and apply tax guidance and accounting policies as it applies to donor receipts and expenditures including overseeing the integrity of the donor database

Develop and document policies, procedures and work flow to improve effectiveness of finance and organization-wide integrated systems

Subject matter expert for the organizational ERP and supporting the adoption of technology/efficiencies into work practices

Team Leadership Responsibilities



5+ years general accounting experience working with ASPE and/or ASNPO; Sage 50 experience desirable; proficiency in full-cycle payroll

2+ years of not-for-profit/charity and/or health care industry experience would be an asset

Knowledge of tax and gaming regulations as it applies to Charities

University degree or College diploma in business or accounting related discipline; designated or working towards CPA accounting designation desirable; Equivalent combination of education/experience will be considered



Regular work hours 8:30-4:30; Flexible work hours needed at times to support the mandate of the organization
